Friends Receives $83,000 Grant from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management
The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management approved the Friends grant request for $83,000 to engage Tucson youth in controlling invasive plants. The project will remove invasive plants from desert stream habitats in Saguaro National Park. This initiative will reduce the spread of wildfires, increase water flow, and create access to stream pools (known locally as tinajas) for the lowland leopard frog, Sonoran mud turtle, Gila topminnow and other native wildlife that will be reintroduced to the impacted areas once work in complete.
Thank you to our friends at the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management for approving our collaborative request.
