The challenge for Friends of Saguaro National Park is to redefine the role of stewardship in national parks -- an issue faced by Friends organizations assisting virtually all of America's 423 national park units. Many citizens are unaware that the National Park Service receives just 1/15 of one cent of every U.S. taxpayer dollar to care for all the parks in the national system. Federal funding alone simply cannot meet all the parks' critical needs, so individual parks must broaden and diversify their funding base to support their constantly emerging (and often unique) program needs.
Accordingly, Friends of Saguaro National Park seeks to actively engage Tucsonans -- and all who love the Sonoran Desert -- to assist us with our mission of helping to preserve, protect and enhance the fragile environment and cultural heritage of Saguaro National Park by promoting citizen stewardship through philanthropy, volunteerism and public awareness.
As an authorized 501(c)(3) fundraising partner of the National Park Service, Friends of Saguaro National Park endorses the principles advanced in the following Donor Bill of Rights.
